Trail Description
Part of the Carter-Moriah Range of the White Mountains, the Wildcat Mountain Range in Northern New Hampshire is a difficult but rewarding trail. The trail begins valley between Wildcat Mountain Range and the Mount Washington Range at the AMC Pinkham Notch hut. The trail then traverses over five summits: A, B, C, D, and E all while traveling along the top of Wildcat Ridge; A and D's are on AMC's 4000-Footer lists. The trails are extremely rocky and at some points quite steep, so always be sure to watch your step. Eventually the trail ends at the AMC Carter Notch Hut, the total length of the trail from the starting point on Route 16 is 5 miles. During the length of the trail, hikers will pass lakes and freshwater streams (safe to drink) and will experience amazing views of the surrounding mountain ranges as well as the Wildcat Ski Area. The trail is surrounded by dense forests which include spruce, pine, and birch trees all of which are native to New Hampshire. While hiking this trail be sure to keep a look out for wildlife, if your lucky you might see a moose!
